Atilla KISS


Atilla B. KISS, the Transylvanian born Hungarian tenor took a degree at the George Dima Music Academy in Cluj in1996

He is soloist of the Hungarian Opera in Cluj between the years 1993 – 1999.

And is regular guest and one of the leading singers at the Hungarian State Opera House  of Budapest from 1999 – Present.

Here he stars as the main character of several new productions. For example the Pretender in Boris Godunov, Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut, Don José in Carmen, Macduff in Macbeth, Pollione in Norma, Števa in Jenůfa, Walther von Stolzing in The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, Don Alvaro in The Force of Destiny, and the title roles of Bánk bán, Lohengrin, André Chénier, etc.

He has sung the leading roles on premières of notable Hungarian contemporary composers. Such as Bozay, Petrovics, Szokolay, Ránki.

On the side of Eva Marton and Andrea Rost he has formed and has sung the title-part in the motion picture opera made from Ferenc Erkel’s Bánk Bán (director of photography: Vilmos Zsigmond, A.S.C.).

He sung Don Gomes in Henry VIII by Saint-Saëns at Barcelona Opera House Gran Teatro del Liceo (dir. Pierre Jourdan) in 2002.

He has successfully debuted as Števa in Jenůfa (dir. Attila Vidnyánszky) and as Lohengrin (dir. Katharina Wagner) at the Budapest Hungarian State Opera House, as Hagenbach in La Wally at Stadttheater Bern (dir. Renata Scotto), and he sung Turiddu at the New National Theater in Tokyo (dir. Grischa Asagaroff) in 2004.

In Essen he has performed Des Grieux in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut (cond. Stefan Soltész), again at Barcelona Opera House Števa in Jenůfa (dir. Olivier Tambosi, cond: Peter Schneider), and Don José in Carmen (dir. Mark Lamos, cond. Richard Bradshaw) at Canadian Opera Company, Toronto in 2005.

He was Turiddu at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin (con. Vjekoslav Sutej),and Walther von Stolzing in The Mastersingers of Nuremberg (dir. Attila Vidnyanszky, cond. Yuri Simonov) at Budapest Hungarian State Opera House in 2006.

Another performance at NNT Tokyo with the role of Dick Johnson in Puccini’s The Girl of the Golden West (dir. Andreas Homoki, cond. Ulf Schirmer) in 2007.

Debut in Calaf / Turandot at Budapest Opera House, and Laca in Jenůfa at Opera Monte Carlo (dir. Friedrich Meyer-Oertel, cond. Jacques Lacombe) in 2008.

He has also the Requiem by Mozart, Verdi, Dvořák and Webber on his repertoire, as well as Kodaly’s Psalmus Hungaricus and Bartók’s Cantata Profana.

In 2010, he first sang Michele / The Saint of Bleeker Street in Marseille, the Albert Gregor / The Makropulos Case in Nantes, Bánk Bán in Budapest.

In 2011, he was Narraboth / Salome in Monte Carlo, Lev Goumilev / Akhmatova (Bruno Mantovani) in World Premiere at the Paris Bastille Opera, Laca / Jenufa in Rouen …

Award winnings:
