Riccardo NOVARO


 

At the age of 20, Riccardo Novaro debuted in Cagliari with Guglielmo and has since gone on to specialize in Mozart roles such as Figaro, Leporello, and Papageno. 

 

His upcoming engagements include Pallente in Agrippina in Dijon and Lille. He will also be heard as Clistene in L’Olimpiade (Vivaldi) in Garsington. Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore will mark his return to Glyndebourne, and he will interpret Mozart’s Figaro in Lausanne. He will also be heard as Dandini in Paris in Cenerentola and Schaunard in La Boheme in Bordeaux.

 

During the 2010-11 season, he sang Taddeo in L’Italiana in Algeri in Bordeaux and Achillas in Giulio Cesare in Ravenna and in Lausanne.  He also sang Argante inRinaldo in Glyndebourne, and Masetto in New York at the Mostly Mozart Festival, conducted by Ivan Fischer. During this season he also sang Dandini at the Opéra de Paris, Mozart’s Figaro in Ancona. In 2010, he sang Il Conte in Figaro in Rouen and in New Zealand. He also sang Haly in L’Italiana in Algeri at the Paris Opera, followed by Taddeo L’Italiana in Algeri in Lausanne.

 

In 2009, he sang Le Nozze di Figaro and Il Turco in Italia in Düsseldorf, as well as Carmen in Comic Opera of Paris, including, Don Alfonso in Glyndebourne.

 

In 2007-08, he sang Le Nozze di Figaro in Paris, L’Italiana in Algeri in Lille, Amiens and Caen, Giulio Cesare in Lausanne, Così in Garsington, and La Cenerentola (Dandini) in Nancy. During the 2006-07 season, he sang L’Elisir d’amore in Montpellier, Cenerentola (Dandini) in Tours, Giulio Cesare in Nancy and Le Nozze di Figaro in Lausanne (role of Figaro) and Bordeaux (role of Il Conte).

 

Novaro possesses an extensive bel canto repertoire, including Macrobio in La Pietra del Paragone, which he has sung at the Garsington Festival. As Gaudenzio in Il signor Bruschino he has been heard in Milan, and as Taddeo in L’italiana in Algeri has he been heard in Trento, Rovigo, Bolzano, and in Montpellier. His Raimbaud in Le Comte Ory has brought him to Genoa and Amsterdam. As Don Alvaro in Il viaggio a Reims he has been heard in Genoa and Brussels. He has Germanoin La scala di seta in Freiburg, Il Conte in Il Matrimonio segreto in Turin, Malatesta in Don Pasqualein Cagliari and at the Garsington Festival. Finally his Belcore in L’elisir d’amorehas been heard in Wellington, Auckland and Naples.

  

Novaro has also established himself as a sought-after interpreter of works of the baroque period. He has sung in Cesti’s Argia and Gassmann’sOpera Seria at the Théatre des Champs –Elysées in Paris conducted by René Jacobs. He has performed in Monteverdi’s Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda (Testo) at the Berlin Staatsoper.  In Charpentier’s Te Deum he was heard at Santa Cecilia in Rome conducted by Myun-Whun Chung (recorded for Deutsche Grammophon).

 

His performance in Vivaldi’s Olimpiade conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini was recorded for Naive. More recently, he sang Giove in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria conducted by Ottavio Dantone for the Circuito Lombardo.

 

At the Glyndebourne Festival he has sung Marco in Gianni Schicchi in Annabel Arden’s production. This production was recorded and published on DVD (Opus Arte).
